Enduring The Misdeeds of The Sheriff Made Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey Stronger

The world is only as good as we make it, our acts both good and bad often translate into the cumulative outcome. The more acts of goodness that we perform, the better the chances that the world will become a just place to live in for future generations.

These days, people from various walks of life are standing together to fight against injustice done against them and others. Such is the tale of Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey, two ordinary people who took on a mammoth task for others suffering due to injustice inflicted upon them.

A decade ago, Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey, two media representatives, created a cover story for Phoenix New Times publication, which exposed the true intentions of Joe Arpaio, the sheriff of Maricopa County.

This act of reporting factual news about misdeeds done by the sheriff not only against immigrants but also against anybody who stood up against him led to Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey being illegally harassed, arrested and detained by the sheriff.

The people in the entire nation stood up for Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey when their arrest made the headlines, and this directly resulted in the acquittal of Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey.

All the charges were dropped as well, as these allegations were false and made without a probable cause that could stand up in the courtroom. Soon after being let go, Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey filed a case against the Maricopa County, which they won in the form of a settlement in 2013. The funds received by these two media executives was a total of $3.7 Million, which was directly used to fund the Frontera Foundation.

Along with the efforts of Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey, the Frontera foundation is geared to undo the injustice done by various people like the sheriff who ignored the first amendment and civil rights of Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey. The Frontera foundation was also created to assist the Hispanic community living in Arizona to get justice against acts including racial profiling, segregation, and discrimination. Due to the seeds of evil that were sowed by Joe Arpaio over his lifetime, he reaped an outcome of a case being lodged against him. This case was known as Melendres v. Arpaio lawsuit, which directly resulted in him not being re-elected as the sheriff of Maricopa County for the next term.

While most people expected this man to come tumbling down as he was facing an extended prison sentence, the tides shifted in favour of Joe Arpaio which led to him getting a presidential pardon from President Donald Trump as they were old allies.

While the world was disheartened by this new development, Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey continued their fight against people like Joe Arpaio through the Frontera foundation. In fact, they emerged from this disaster, as a force much stronger and dedicated than before.

Many other funds and organizations such as DACA have joined hands with Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey, to ensure a brighter future for immigrants and others who need assistance in fighting for their human rights.

Michael Lacy and Jim Larkin Have Set Up The Frontera Fund To Help End Discrimination Against Immigrants

Michael Lacy and Jim Larkin thought that Sheriff Joe Arpaio was finally going to face the music when he ended up being convicted of criminal contempt. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the case, because President Trump pardoned him for the conviction, and it’s possible it had something to do with the fact that Arpaio loudly supported his birther accusations against President Obama.

While people were happy to see the Sheriff lose his bid for another reelection, they were extremely upset when he didn’t have to pay any consequences for the harm he had caused during his time spent as Sheriff.

Joe Arpaio was known to do anything within and beyond his scope of allowed powers to combat illegal immigration.

The problem with this approach is that he ended up violating the civil rights of many of the people he blamed for America’s own issues. In 2011, a judge in the U.S. district Court issued a preliminary injunction against the Sheriff as well as the Sheriff’s Office, which directed them to stop racially profiling Latino drivers.

This did nothing to stop the profiling and other actions that continued to occur, but in 2013 a ruling against him and the Sheriff’s Office cemented the fact that Arpaio had, indeed, violated the earlier ruling. Even though Arpaio was adamant that he didn’t understand the previous ruling, which was very clear, this led to his conviction. The story doesn’t end there, and this is where Michael Lacey and Jim Larkin come in. Many people did not know that behind the scenes there was even more going on. Sheriff Arpaio’s crimes had been featured over and over in the Phoenix New Times.

Instead of giving up on the matter when friends of Arpaio’s in the county attorney’s office sent out a grand jury subpoena that would give them information about the people who worked at the paper, the Phoenix New Times put out an expose. The article was huge, and Arpaio wouldn’t let it go. Instead, he sent in armed deputies to the homes of Michael Lacy and Jim Larkin and took them to two separate jails that he managed. The illegal detaining of the two men caused so much uproar that they were released the very next day.

After a long battle in court it was determined that their arrest was illegal and that it was clear that Arpaio had sent his men out to get rid of his critics.

Maricopa County then had to pay $3.7 million in settlement money to Lacey and Larkin, but instead of keeping the money, the reporters set up the Frontera Fund. This organization now offers help to Latinos and Hispanics who have felt the effects of discrimination.

Jim Larkin has commented that it was the lessons he learned early in life, which taught him to help the downtrodden and poor, that inspired him to get on the side of Mexican immigrants.

To this day, the Frontera Fund is donating money to causes and non-profits that make life easier for those who being discriminated against.

Bob Reina: He’s Onto Something Good

Bob Reina is one of those individuals that are truly ahead of their time in every sense. He knows what people need, what they want, and how to give it to them. He has done that as both a police officer and also through his work as the CEO and founder of Talk Fusion. He started the company back in 2007 to connect people with one another and for them to have their dreams come true. He wanted people to take back control of their lives and feel like they had a say in what was happening around them and what was happening to them. They didn’t have to feel like they were just an observer in their life. They were in control for once.

They were in control because they had products like video newsletters and video conferences to reach people. They finally felt confident and felt sure about themselves. It was something they had not felt in maybe their entire lives. In life, people like to tell others what they can and can’t do. I don’t know why. Maybe it makes them feel better about themselves. Bob Reina is the opposite. He wants people to know they can do anything and they have a lot of untapped potential inside of themselves. There is not a single thing they can’t do if they want it bad enough.

At the end of the day, that is what life boils down to: how bad do you want it? How bad do you need it? For a lot of people, it has reached the point where they simply can’t take another single day at their job. They are sick of their boss and they are sick of feeling like they are not being allowed to tap into their creativity. With Talk Fusion, they call the shots and they are in charge for once.

Bob Reina is also the person that made a one million dollar donation to the Tampa Bay Humane Society. He is also the person that pays for vet bills on animals that are in need. He is doing all he can and it is what he lives for in his life. Learn more: https://www.crunchbase.com/person/bob-reina#/entity
